I spent my first few years of singletrack life with a beer in my bag, letting my old road racing fitness take me on longer and weirder adventures. The latest compulsion culminating as an Everest up the steepest trail in the world (while perhaps not technically the steepest, my legs refused to stop cramping until I wrote that.)
Figuring that even the arduousness of racing is saner than chasing the next high(est) level of big ride, I have rebooted the training calendar and power meter and rededicated myself to speed as I aspire to contribute at the hot end of some of North America's best long form gravel and mountain bike races. And as they say, once the naked man gets in the hot tub*, history will hit the repeat button, and there is likely to be an epic ride or two left waiting for me.
