BARRY WICKS DOUBLES UP THE WINS IN OHIO-RYAN TREBON 7TH AT BELGIUM GVA

Kona-yourkey.com Factory Team Rider Barry Wicks added two more victories to his 2008 season with a pair of weekend wins. Meanwhile on the other side of the Atlantic teammate Ryan Trebon had a couple of solid outings in the first big races for his European foray.

Wicks is showing that he has the form necessary and is intent on winning his 2nd US Gran Prix of Cyclocross title. Wicks has been selecting races to attend that fit into his training schedule as well as trying out some new venues. The Middletown and Cincinnati courses were new ones for him and the desired result was achieved on both days. Wicks won handily on both courses in what was a somewhat routine weekend for him.

“It was super cool to come out to Ohio. A lot of the other crossers are at Gloucester this weekend but I was ready to try something different and the promoters here did a great job. The courses were really fun and super well done..no jungle cross here,” said Wicks. “The fans were great too and the scene here reminds me of the Portland cross scene 10 years ago. All the things are right for it to explode in the very near future.”

Over in Belgium, Kona teammate Ryan Trebon had one of the better rides of his career taking 7th place at the Grand Prix de la Région Wallonne. “I missed the initial selection of the race and had to really charge across the gap to get to the lead group. Once I got there I kept going, went to the lead and pushed the pace. I was leading the race coming into the sand pit and a lapped rider forced me to take a different line….which didn’t turn out to be too clean and a couple of us crashed or bobbled. That’s when Nys took off for the win,” remarked Trebon. “But I’m really happy with this result. This is the first time I’ve been riding with the lead group at the end of the race.”

Superprestige #1 – Ruddervoorde did not go as well for Trebon due to a mechanical. Early in the first lap of the race a rider came across Trebon’s line and ended up taking four spokes out of Trebon’s front wheel with his rear skewer. Trebon had to then ride the less than stable wheel and pit. “I ended up 3rd from last after the pit and fought my way back up to about 10th place with three laps left to go. But I’d burned most all my matches when the pace quickened on the final laps and I slid back to 19th place. Not bad considering.”

All in all another great weekend for the Kona-yourkey.com Factory Cyclocross team.
