9th NMBS Cross Country- Overall
Ryan Trebon and Barry Wicks didn’t have the final weekend of racing they
were hoping for but it was still good enough to get both of them on the
podium for the overall standings for the year. Ryan Trebon, the current US
National Champion in Short Track finished 4th Overall for short Track and
11th in the Cross Country Overall. Barry Wicks finished 5th in the overall
Standing for Cross Country. Kris Sneddon also had a career best overall
finish in 9th place in the Cross Country Overall.
Barry Wicks
Barry Wicks was sitting in 3rd place in the series for the cross
country overall coming into the Snowmass, Colorado final weekend. He need a
stellar finish in order to maintain that lead as the points had been
tabulated prior to the allowed one dropped race. But the altitude bug bit
Wicks, the sea level dweller, and he finished 12th in the Cross Country. “I
don’t normally race well at altitude and rode pretty conservative. For a sea
level guy like me once you go into the red at 11,000 feet there’s no coming
back so I didn’t want to go there. But I’m pretty happy with my season. I
achieved my goal of being consistent. Now it’s time to elevate the
consistent finishes up a few places,” said Wicks.
Ryan Trebon
Trebon was happy with his 4th place short track overall. “I’m stoked to get
4th overall especially since I am wearing the stars and stripes jersey short
track jersey now. I had the flat gremlins all season long especially in the
XC so it was good to salvage that part of the season with the short track,”
remarked Trebon. Ryan Trebon was able to stave off the altitude and
antibiotics to finish 9th in the cross country and 5th in the short track at
Snowmass. “I picked up some weird bacterial skin infection in North Carolina
and the antibiotics I was on really screwed me up, especially in the heat.
So with the heat and the altitude I’m pretty happy to finish where I did.”
Kris Sneddon
Kris Sneddon was consistent all season long and was always in the hunt
but just off the podium. Sneddon was rewarded with a career best 9th place
overall in Cross Country and 12th in the short track. “Consistent is ok but
I want to be better. My season has been pretty good for the most part. I had
some good results in Europe despite my poor starting positions and it was
good to be in the top ten for the NMBS but a few podiums would have been
nice. I had too many 6th place finishes and it makes to ramp it up to get
inside the top five,” said Sneddon.
Wendy Simms
Wendy Simms opted to skip the final round of the NMBS after a
frustrating season instead competing with her husband in the duo category of
the Trans Rockies. “I started out real strong but then went to Europe and
got sick. I never seemed to recover fully for the rest of the season and I
got a bid discouraged because my form was really good to start,” said Simms.
Simms finish 6th Overall for the Short Track and 12th in the Cross Country
in the NMBS. But from the looks of it, her form is starting to come back
just in time for cross. In the first stage of the Trans Rockies Simms (and
her husband Norm Thibault) won the first stage by over 20 minutes in a two
hour race.
