KONA RESULTS - CRANKWORX

The Kona athletes showed their versatility this weekend in what has become the hallmark of the team—having some of the best athletes in the world in all disciplines of the sport of cycling. The Crankworx Festival in Whistler BC was in full swing and saw record attendance both in entrants and spectators.

Tracy Moseley:
Tracy Moseley was again out in front for the Kona team. Tracy bathed herself in gold as she swept every gravity event offered for the weekend. Moseley won the top to bottom Garbanzo DH, the A-Line Air Downhill, the Dual Slalom and Canadian Open Downhill. “Whistler is and incredible place and with Crankworx is so busy it’s hard to maintain the balance to stay focused on the racing. But yeah it’s great to win all the events. I’m really happy,” said Moseley.

Fabien Barel:
Teammate Fabien Barel also made the trip across the pond to race the Canadian Open Downhill and also do some more filming for the Freeride Entertainments New World Disorder VIII Film. He made the most of both opportunities and won the Canadian open besting Sam Hill and Greg Minnar and was only one of two riders to crack the 3 minute barrier with a time of
2:54. “It was a lot of anticipation on the track today. With only a chance to do three practice runs and no walking inspection of the course it was very challenging. The track was really, really nice it was high speed and technical. There was a bit of pedaling but the really fast stuff at the top made up for it,” said Barel.

Kona Les Gets XC:
In another country and across the coast Kona Les Gets Rider Barry Wicks took 5th Place in the Cross Country, 8th in the Short track and 5th in the Super D at the Sugar Mountain NMBS race North Carolina. Kris Sneddon took 12th Place in the XC and short Track. Wendy Simms place 12th in the XC and 7th in the Short Track.

Kona Clump:
Andreu Lacondeguy took 2nd place in the 2007 Crankworx Slopestyle event with a stellar run that included a massive back flip off the Kona Jumps. Andreu was charging the course and many of his tricks were absolutely huge. “I like to go 100% all the time. That’s just me and it’s all or nothing. I felt good on my first run so I had nothing to lose on the second run. The crowds here at Crankworx are the best,” Lacondeguy remarked.

Paul Basagoitia had one of the most impressive runs going of the event also pulling a huge back flip and really pulling the stops out on the upper part of the course. But he just slightly under rotated on the tail whip off the massive Kokanee drop and crashed very hard completely destroying his front wheel. He took a bit of time to see if he was going to be able to
continue on the 2nd round. “I broke my pinky or at least it looks like it and my shoulder is pretty bad off but I had to get out there and go for it,” Basagoitia remarked. Paul finished in 5th place.

Grant Fielder crashed in the finals and was not able to make it to the Super Finals. He finished in 19th place in the Final round. He was one of a few to try anything big off the final stunt the Kokanee but just slipped his front wheel and then slipped a pedal and lost his shoe in the process.

All in all it was a great weekend for the Kona Teams. Seven podium spots, 5 gold medals, one silver and two 5th place finishes!

Till Next Time,

Marko
