UK Nationals round 2 - Innerleithen, Scotland - Tracy Moseley Report

Having not been able to do much riding before the World Cup in Vigo because I was ill, I decided to change my plans and not attend the Lisbon Downtown race this year, and instead stay on home shores and get in some more valuable downhill riding before the next world cup. For the last few years I have not been able to make many national races due to other racing commitments, so it was nice to be able to make one and support the race series that gave me the skills to embark on the world cup circuit.

It was back to Innerleithen again, so I knew the track would be good. It was a bit longer than the track I did here a few weeks ago for the Scottish race with even more tight twisty turns, brushing past trees with the ends of your handlebar ! Although for me most of my competition was away racing at Lisbon I just wanted to use this race as training and gauge my time against the guys to see how well I was going.

It’s always a great workout racing at Innerleithen as you have a 1.5 mile road ride to get to the uplift and then a 15 min, bone shaking ride up the fire road in a cattle truck topped off with a 10 min push up to the start of the track ! So one thing is sure I was going to be doing some good training this weekend. I was having great fun in practice, although it was quite an adjustment to come from a fast world cup track to a super slow, tight British track ! I made quite a few adjustments to my suspension to set it up for this track and also had a play with flat pedals for a few runs !

I could really feel the benefits of my new DH bike this year, it handles better and is so much more manoeuvrable around the tight corners. My qualifying run was going pretty well until I caught 2 of the riders who set off in front of me and one of them crashed and left me trying to avoid their bike and losing valuable time, so I knew I could improve a lot on my qualifying time of 4.15min. I went out hard in my final and made a couple of mistakes early on, as there was a very fine line between being aggressive and trying to keep a smooth flow. I got better and felt strong towards the bottom, putting in a solid run to finish with a time of 4.03min.

Results
1st Tracy Moseley – 4.03
2nd Emily Horridge – 4.33
3rd Calamaty-Jane Cann – 4.37

I was pleased with the way I rode and now look forward to a week at home and some solid preparation ahead of the nest World Cup in Fort William.

P.S Apologies for the lack of pictures this week, I was being slack and the one podium shot came out all blurred !!
