Scottish DH Series Rd 1, Innerleithen and San Remo, Italy– Tracy Moseley report

Having only had one chance to ride my new downhill bike I decided to head up to Scotland to get some downhill practice in. Innerleithen is one of my favourite venues as I have been racing there since 1997. New trails are being built all the time and the standard of tracks just keep evolving with development of the sport. You also get a good work out at Innerleithen as you have to ride 2 miles along the road from the bottom of the course to the entrance to the fireroad where the uplift begins ! Well uplift is quite a loose description as it’s a big sheep transporter that is used here for loading bikes and people. You rattle in the darkness of the truck along with 40 other people and bikes for about 15 mins until you reach the top of the hill, hopefully with your breakfast still inside you !! Still I am not complaining as we used to have to push to the top, which used to take me an hour !

The race track had some new sections mixed in with some old tracks, which made for a great course. Lots of roots and off camber and very tight gaps between trees ! It was a real old school downhill track which I loved. The weather was great and it stayed dry for almost the entire weekend, only to give in just before the second runs.
There were very few girls, so I did not have a great field of competition, so I took the win with ease, but this weekend was more about training than the racing so it was definitely a very worthwhile trip. It was also great to see that the sport is certainly thriving in Scotland as the entire summer series if full already ! It’s great to see a such passion for the sport at the grass roots level with most of the organisational crew consisting of riders mum’s and dad’s ! This led to a great atmosphere which I enjoyed being part of. I am hoping to take part in the final round of the series in September.

1st Tracy Moseley – 3.46
2nd Jaymie Mart – 4.51
3rd Wendy Chambers – 5.05

I then spent a couple of days riding xc with a friend from university. I can never come and visit the Scotland without stopping to ride some of the 7stanes trails. We did the black trail at Glentress on Monday morning and then drove down to Ae Forest and did that trail in the afternoon. So that was a good workout, about 50km offroad. Then the following day we travelled to Kirroughtree to do the black trail there which I still think is my favourite of the 7 stanes trails. There is so much twisting singletrack that you do not really realise that you are climbing !!

Then straight to Liverpool airport to catch a flight out to Nice to race an Italian National at San Remo. The downhill course at San Remo is often used for suspension testing by Fox in Europe as it is one of the roughest tracks about. Its 5 minutes of bike and body beating ! Again this was just an opportunity to get some more testing with the new bikes and more downhill training before the first world cup in Vigo in 2 weeks time.
We had 3 days of training on the course before the race which was great, although my hands were starting to give up on me by day 3 ! We had the chance to do some work with Fox Europe and definitely came up with a great set up for out rear shock for this track. By the time the race came I was pretty tired and really didn’t race well. I made a lot of mistakes at the bottom of the course which cost me valuable time.

Results
1st Sabrina Jonnier – 5.21
2nd Emmeline Ragot – 5.26
3rd Tracy Moseley – 5.27
4th Celine Gros – 5.31

Although I was disappointed not to win I was also content with the fact that the last 2 weeks had been all about training and I was definitely not fresh for this race ! I now have 10 days at home to rest and get ready for another assault on the World Cup title.
