MAXXIS CUP INTERNATIONAL - Gouveia POR, 19 March 2006 - Tracy Moseley Report

MAXXIS CUP 1 – GOUVEIA, PORTUGAL
It really is the beginning of the season now, as it really didn’t seem like a week and I was back in an airport waiting for another flight !! This time it was only a short 2 hours to Portugal. My brother has decided to come out of retirement and have a go at a few races so it was good to have him riding again this weekend. My Dad also came for some sunny weather, but unfortunately that was not to be as it rained on and off from the moment we got off the plane ! Not a good start to the season.

However the track was still great, the soil drained so quickly that as soon as it stopped raining it dried up really fast.

This was my first day out on my new prototype Stab Supreme, which at first did feel quite different, but as I got used to it I began to really like. I think it will be great to help further improve my riding and results this season.
It was quite an eventful trip with some lack of sleep and practice for all of us, as Fabien killed our first rental car so he spent the first afternoon getting a replacement ! I then got 4 runs of practice in and then spent until midnight at the hospital with one of my friends who had crashed. Luckily Saturday was a more successful day all round and I got some solid practice in.

Sunday produced some great racing and as the rain was ever looming the first runs were looking pretty critical. I had a good run with a couple of sketchy moments, but in general I was pleased with how I had ridden and the new bike was working great. I clocked a 2.28, to take first ahead of Emmeline Ragot of France. The rain had been and gone by my second run, but it was much slipperier and I made a few mistakes and went 2 seconds slower. Emmeline also did not better her first run time so I took the win.

1st – TRACY MOSELEY 2:28:806
2nd – Emmeline Ragot 2:32:089
3rd – Anneke Beerten 2:36:971

Fabien also took the win just ahead of Marc Beaumont. My brother also won the Senior category and earned himself a UCI point so that he will now be eligible to race the world cup in Fort William. So all in all after a pretty disastrous start to our trip it ended really well !
Next stop is the Sea Otter Classic in USA.
