MAXXIS CUP INTERNATIONAL - Gouveia POR, 19 March 2006

After a late night arrival in Porto and a crazy drive through Europe’s best Maize of deviations and road works, we arrived in the wet town of Gouveia around midnight. We checked in with a good mix of English, French and Spanish and went straight to bed.

Friday saw more rain and cold weather, Tracy and Fabien walked the track whilst I built the bikes in the hotel room. This was going to the first day out for Tracy on her new Prototype Stab supreme so plenty of adjustments and last minute detail required.
The plan was to spend the afternoon training and testing the new bikes – however that plan was changed due the need to get a replacement rental car after Fabien decided to Pinch flat the wheel, wrech the rim and destroy the suspension. So Fabien and I spent the day getting a new car and driving around the Portuguese roadworks for quite some time.
Tracy also missed all her training due to having to accompany her friend to hospital after a bad crash. We all got to bed pretty late on Friday night so Saturday was going to be the day for training.

The bikes were running well and riders were happy, Tracy was liking her new ride and all was good – well except for the rain, conditions were wet and slippery. Sunday was going to be a good race, especially with some of the top international riders that were there.

The Maxxis races run with the best time of the 2 runs counting, so pressure was on to get good first run times with the rain ever looming.

Tracy did an awesome time and managed to hit first place with Emmeline Ragot in 2nd and Anneke Beerten in 3rd. Fabien also rode on top form and took the lead ahead of Marc Beamont and David Vasquez.

The second run saw much wetter conditions, and slower times, however Fabien and Tracy still both had fastest times for their runs.
