San Remo, Italian DH Cup

Sunday 23 April 2006
San Romolo (Italian DH cup)

This race was held in the small mountain village of San Romolo, about 20km inland from the Italian City of San Remo.
The weather was hot and dry with some patches of low cloud and cool air.

Sunday was race day and with a field of nearly 400 riders the start was early, Tracy was the first rider down the track at 09h00 and had to dodge a few late arriving marshals who were still wondering up the track to finish her seeding run in second place behind Emiline.
Fabien also had some issues on his run, however his were related to his shoes, we had made some modifications to the sole to change his riding position which ended up in him pulling both cleats out of his shoes and then a small crash lead him to finish off his run by coasting to the line well down the field.

Womens
The final came late in the day and the order of departure had changed so Tracy was slotted in before the final 50 men.
Tracy said she had a clean run and got most of here lines but was very tired from 2 weeks of intense DH training and also battling sickness so she was content with her third place. Sabrina Joinier took the win and Emiline took second place with her time from the morning run.

Mens
Fabien was not feeling very confident due to an old Injury in his hand which was playing up and causing him lots of pain, he was battling all weekend to hold onto the bike and we had to make several changes to his riding position and setup to ease the pain.
He got away to a powerful start and put 3 seconds into Michael Pascal by the split, however in the later part of the track he was really tired and suffering from pain in his legs so eased off to ensure he did not make any mistakes, he crossed the line in first place with a good time, he was confident that the time would stay for the lead but he was not happy with the margin. Mick took second and Julien Cammelini was in a close 3rd.

This race was in preparation for Vigo and the following season, so overall the riders were content with there positions but are looking forward to a couple of weeks of recuperation and re-focussing before Vigo.
