Kona Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I go for help buying Kona stuff online?
Our Shopping Help page should answer all your questions.

Can I have free stickers?

The two best places to buy stickers is from your local Kona dealer or our web store. Both should have a Kona factory sticker sets available.

What do I have to do to get sponsored/hired?
We only accept sponsorship requests and resumes by mail. You can mail those to: The USA... Kona USA 2455 Salashan Ferndale, WA 98248 Or Canada... TBG 381 Railway Street Vancouver, BC V6A 1A4

Do you ever sell used bikes, old bikes or demo bikes out of your warehouse at a discount?
Very occasionally, we do sell demo bikes and the like, but always to our local Kona dealers. Check with them for our discounted bikes.

How do I fix my bike?
We prefer not to answer your question if we think our answer might encourage you to damage your bike while attempting a repair. We've got no way to verify your skills from reading your message. Head to your dealer, they will gladly help you out and consult us if there are any questions or concerns.

Can I put a DH fork, or an XYZ tire on my bike?
We will never recommend a component that will damage your bike, or that we haven't tested here and found to be acceptable. We can't tell you how well a tire will fit in your frame, you'll have to test fit it and insure the clearance is OK, every tire and rim combo has a run out that varies. Plus everyone has a different way of measuring tire size.

How much will my bike weigh, and how long is the head tube?
There is bike or frame weight and tube chart in the tech area of our website. We only scale one of each size to get a representative weight for the model. There is a geometry chart in the back of our catalog, and online.

Can I get my local painter to redo my frame, and can you send me some frame stickers?
You must have your frame re-done by an authorized Kona painter, otherwise you will void the frame warranty, and the frame may fail. Same goes for stripping the old paint. Both stripping and painting if not correctly performed can damaged the surface hardness of the frame, and the heat treating leading to cracks, or bending and a catastrophic frame failure. Powder coating is not permitted for aluminum, or Scandium frames. Contact your local bike shop, or Kona distributor to find the painter in your area. The painter will have access to frame decals. If you just need new decals take your serial number into your local dealer, and they will request them from us. We can't guarantee we'll have your model year, but we should be able to put something together.

What does the 2nd hole on my Stinky's, Coiler's and Dawg's shock mount do?
the front shock mount gives a straight rate (feels the same through the travel), and the rear gives a rising rate (feels stiffer at the end of the travel). Travel and geometry stay constant.

How can I add more suspension travel to my bike?
We build our 5-6-7" bikes with completely different frames. If we didn't the bike would be compromised in it's short travel position. This way the 7" bike rides like the 5" and the 6", just with more travel. We adjust frame angles and sizing, modify rockers, and spec new shocks. The idea that the aftermarket guys are selling a part that will increase the travel by changing one part isn't valid. The Fox shocks are valved for a specific stroke (3:1), and exceeding that results in uncontrolled damping. Putting a heavier spring on does nothing for this. You can also cause the rear wheel to strike the frame, since the extra travel comes from moving the wheel further. Last you'll void the frame warranty, and could damage the frame and shock. Never mind getting bucked off a cliff when the shock can't control a hit and the tire stops on the frame!

What size BB do I need to buy?

All Konas use a 68mm BB shell with the exception of the 98 Misser frames. The axle length depends on what crank is used. If you're using the stock cranks we'll be able to tell you, but it's a good idea to double check on some older models as specs can change in-season.

And finally ...
Normally we need to know what kind of bike you have, and what year it was made. If you aren't sure we can usually figure it out from your serial number. In some cases we can't help you by email so we'll ask you to go to your dealer, and we'll ask where you are so we can give them a heads up you're on the way.
