Each year the bicycle industry meets in Las Vegas for the international
trade show. Kona has hosted the Buck-A-Bowl fundraiser (photo link) since,
1998, raising over $30,000 for the International Mountain Biking Assocation
(IMBA). Nearly $10,000 was raised at the 2001 funraiser, with 500 bicycle
industry people in attendance. Kona's contribution included $3,125 to pay
for the lanes and shoe rentals. Buck-A-Bike was the forerunner, an optional
program for Kona dealers where they collected $1 for every Kona sold, and
Kona matched those funds. Kona dealers selected the organizations who received
the funds, and over $30,000 was disbursed to IMBA, Rails to Trails, NORBA
and a wide variety of regional organizations around the USA.
